Over the weekend I had the chance to read a great book by Esme Raji Codell called Sing a Song of Tuna Fish. No, it is not a campfire songbook dedicated to the infamous sandwich spread...gives a whole new flavor to smores doesn't it?
Sing a song of Tuna Fish is a collection of several memories the author, Esme, has of her childhood. The book starts with a memory of her and her mother throwing eggs at a car from their apartment window. Can you believe it? Well its true!
After the egg throwing story, I couldn't put the book down. I had to find out what other kind of mischief she and her family got in to. You know, one thing great readers practice is recommending good books to their friends. Sing a Song of Tuna Fish was recommended to me by one of my former student, Clarae, from Oregon. Thank you Clarae!
I am wondering what you might say if you were to write a recommendation for this book? Write your response like it will be published in a magazine or newspaper. Maybe your recommendation will inspire another person somewhere in the world to enjoy this book as much as you did.
This book was great, because it was funny and true at the same time. I'm glad you liked it, too, Mr. Brandow. I hope some of your students will read it, too.
