Hello and welcome Mrs. Siporin's third graders. You've made it to Room 313. CONGRATULATIONS! Room 313 is a classroom of fourth graders in New York City. We have 30 students in our class who are very excited to meet you. Our hope is that we can start some conversations about some of the books we are reading, some of the things we are writing, and what our lives are like where we live...and that is just a starting point.
For now, feel free to look around the blog and post any comments you want. If you have a good book you would like to recommend and start a conversation around, let us know and we can get it going. If you have a poem to share, we'd love to read it. We'll start to post some of our writing in the next several days.
For the past two weeks our class has been reading a book called Holes by Louis Sachar. You may have read this book or even seen the movie (gasp), just kidding. It is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who is plagued by bad luck. In fact his whole family is, and has been for generations. It is all because of a no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Stanley's life changes for the worse/better when he is hit in the head by a pair of old basketball shoes and ends up spending some time time at a juvenile boys labor camp called Camp Green Lake. Stanley gets the opportunity to change the luck of his family from bad to good, forever.
One of the interesting things about Stanley is that his last name is his first name spelled backward. I'm curious what your full name would be if your last name was the backward version of your first? Mine would be Derek Kered.

My kids will be looking at your blog today and will hopefully begin blogging to you this afternoon.

Greetings Mr. Brandow's class!
Most of our students have had a chance to blog something to you guys. We got to use wireless laptops that are brand new to us! Way cool! We really enjoyed reading your blog entries. Thank you for being the first to blog to us on our site. We're pretty excited now!
I watched the book review by one of your classmates who reviewed Franny K. Stein's book, Lunch Walks Among Us (?). That was fantastic! I really liked how he shared what he thought were the 2 important lessons to get from the book. Maybe we'll do a similar project. You can post book reviews to our blog too - just use the "Book Reviews" category instead of "Mr. Brandow's Class" category. I hope I get to know some of your names! Soon, I'll put a slide show up on our website so you can see our class.
Until we meet again...
Your Blog Buddy
