They are everywhere, affectionately referred to as the newest important New York accessory. iPods are here, storm the field style, and they are here to stay...in one form or another. You know how they work. iPod is Apple Computer's brand of mp3 player, and more recently your favorite music video and television show projector. That's right, you can watch your favorite episode of The Office right from your iPod while you ride the F Train to work in the morning. But iPod's most exciting option is podcasting.
Podcasting, in it's simplest form, is a radio show recorded, produced, and broadcasted by any person with access to the Internet, and it is free...yes, I said free!
As an educational institution, we already host a number or prerecorded shows for NE's educational benefit. Unfortunately, we have limited our classroom to the small space around the actual computer. With Podcasting, we have instantly given our students not only continued educational experiences, but the option to take their classroom with them on their ride home, waiting in line for the DMV, or plugged into their radio while they shower. We now have mobile learning. And it could possibly take less effort than the way we are doing it now. It could be a better product with more elements that draw the interest of the NE. I know these are hasty projections, but very much within the realms of reality for our purposes.
Following in a quote from a blog talking about Podcasting,
"From course content and supplemental materials for students to professional development offerings for educators, educational institutions are automatically adding content to iPods. Using podcasts to produce and distribute this content means students, parents and educators can experience learning everywhere."
It's short and sweet, and open for discussion...
